Permanent Mirage is an ongoing project by Cillian Finnerty and Cóilín O’Connell comprising of exhibitions, publishing, and research. The project takes as its starting point the dual meanings of the terms ‘hoard/cache’: both as the compulsive accumulation of often worthless objects, and as a term for a valuable archaeological find. 'Cache' in its original sense refers to a stockpile of objects, but in contemporary digital parlance has become synonymous with a term for computer memory.

The ‘hoard’ as a collection that is simultaneously prized and worthless is used as a mechanism in this project, in that the collective significance of objects, images, and artworks increases in value at the same time as they are at risk of being ‘buried’ in a mass of competing materials.
